FREQUENTLTY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do I need an eye exam?

Your body and your eyes are continuously changing throughout your life. You use your eyes almost every waking moment of your life. Having regular eye exams allows the doctor to ensure your prescription is optimally fine tuned and to catch any eye conditions that could potentially affect your vision now as well as in the future. Even more, an eye exam can also allow the doctor to detect underlying health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

How often should I see an optometrist?

You should see an optometrist at minimum once a year whether or not you believe you need vision correction. Eye and health diseases can be detected at annual visits. Certain conditions may warrant even more frequent visits.

Can I wear contact lenses?

Most people who need vision correction can wear contact lenses. Contact lenses can help correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During your exam, the doctor will discuss which specific contact lens will be best suited for you depending on your daily needs and activities. The doctor will then confirm the proper fit and vision before finalizing the prescription.

What is the difference between vision and medical insurance?

Vision insurance typically provides benefits for glasses and contact lens prescription updates. Medical insurance provides benefits for diagnosing and treating health conditions of the eye, including red eyes, discomfort, ocular disease, diabetic retinopathy, ocular allergies, and more. Generally, vision and medical insurance exam benefits cannot both be utilized at the same visit.
